EXHIBITIONS IN ITALY
On
Monday June 22 Frankie Morello will present a
site-specific project by the French artist Sophie
Usunier, entitled Les Empaillés, in the spaces of the
brand's first flagship store, recently opened in Milan.
The exhibition, organized by Rossella Moratto and Marco
Tagliafierro, is the first event in a more far-reaching
program called Knot - Frankie Morello Meets Art,
stemming from the great passion for contemporary art
nursed by the designers Maurizio Modica and
Pierfrancesco Gigliotti, the brand's moving spirits, who
are already collectors and aspire to become patrons.
Mixture, variety and interaction characterize the
research and style of Frankie Morello and are at the
root of Knot, whose aim is to create an open dialogue
with art and its expressions.

The
Galleria Enrico Fornello, while continuing to offer an
artistic programme with an international perspective and
a vocation for contemporary experimental work, is also
running a major, long-term cultural project entitled
PROGETTOSETTANTA - Art and photography from the 70s in
Italy. The project got underway in October 2007.
Curated by Elena Re, the aim of the project is to piece
together and present the complex spectrum of Italian
artists who used photography in the cultural season of
the 70s.
The analysis focuses on core issues in the experimental
work of these artists, in what was a very intense and
important historical period. In some cases, however,
emphasis is also placed on the artists' more recent work
in order to highlight the pertinence and non-fossilized
nature of their expressive approach.
Between the second half of the 60s and the early 80s, in
fact, many artists investigated the potential of the
photographic medium, in the light of a line of thinking
that did not just pervade the field of art. The result
of these experiences was the flourishing of absolutely
novel forms of expression, the multiplicity and the
articulation of which proved such as to create a
scenario as broad as it is fascinating. All the facets
of this clearly need exploring.
The results of the analysis conducted by Elena Re are
being presented in a series of exhibitions held at
regular intervals at the Galleria Enrico Fornello. Each
show is accompanied by a book, thereby creating a series
of works - edited by Elena Re and published by Edizioni
Gli Ori - dealing with and exploring this theme.
Three solo exhibitions were programmed for the initial
phase of the project, devoted to Giorgio Ciam (October
2007), Luigi Ghirri (May 2008) and Paesaggio magico by
Michele Zaza, which is due to open from 22 November 2008
to 31 January 2009.
PROGETTOSETTANTA - Art and photography from the 70s in
Italy is also accorded considerable space and an
identity of its own in the context of art fairs. For
Artefiera 2008 Elena Re curated a section of the
gallery's stand, presenting photographic work by
Giovanni Anselmo, Giorgio Ciam, Claudio Costa, Mario
Cresci, Giuseppe Desiato, Luigi Ghirri, Plinio Martelli,
Luigi Ontani, Giuseppe Penone, Mario Schifano, Aldo
Tagliaferro, Franco Vaccari, Michele Zaza and Gilberto
Zorio.
The extensive programme of exhibitions, the systematic
presence at art fairs and the series of publications
clearly reflect the strong cultural commitment that an
emerging gallery feels bound to make. This is especially
in view of the current situation, which at an
international level involves the rediscovery and
valorization of artists who, with many different and
multiple lines of enquiry, have marked a fundamental
historic period for Italian contemporary art.
Una prima programmazione ha previsto tre mostre
personali: Giorgio Ciam realizzata ad ottobre 2007,
Luigi Ghirri, realizzata a maggio 2008, e Paesaggio
Anselmo, Giorgio Ciam, Claudio Costa, Mario Cresci,
Giuseppe Desiato, Luigi Ghirri, Plinio Martelli, Luigi
Ontani, Giuseppe Penone, Mario Schifano, Aldo
Tagliaferro, Franco Vaccari, Michele Zaza, Gilberto
Zorio.
italiana.
